Arrowtown, Central Otago, in the South Island, playes host at The Hills Golf Course, to the New Zealand Golf Open.

The Remarkable Ranges which flanks one side of the glaciated lake of Lake Wakatipu, on the shores of which, Queenstown is situated, provides the background.

The 4.3 million population of New Zealand boasts having in excess of 300 golf clubs, officially registered with Golf New Zealand. There are also a number of other golf courses which are privately owned or attached to some of the scenic hotels.

One such course is set on the foothills of Mt Ruapehu, the largest mountain in the North Island and New Zealand's most active, mainland volcano.

Although every so often is covered in snow, the private nine hole course connected to the Grand Chateau Bay-view Hotel, is playable almost all year round

The Rangatira Golf Club not often visited by tourists, due to its isolation to high quality accommodation, is another superb course in the Rangitiki district.

Overlooking the Rangitiki gorge, the Rangatira course has beautiful views. The Rangitiki River over millions of years has carved out the Rangitiki limestone ravine.

The high level of standard that the course presents is due to the way in which it is looked after by the green staff. Split into 3 levels of six holes each making its way down the hillside towards the Rangitiki River. After completion of the 18th hole, you ride an electric, 4 person cable car up to the carpark and clubhouse.

Heading further north towards Auckland, the largest city in New Zealand, with a population of approximately 1.5 million, is Lake Taupo.

At approximately 629 square kilometers, Lake Taupo is New Zealand's largest lake.

2,000 years ago, this volcanic crater last erupted. Within the last 2,000, it is believed to have been one of the largest eruptions in the world. The ancient Romans and Chinese have noted in their annuals of history, a darkening of the skies and a red glow at night in the southern skies.

Rated by the honored US Golf Digest magazine, to be in the top 100 courses in the world, The Wairakei International Golf Course is only a few minutes from the township of Taupo.

Beatified with many of New Zealand's native trees and plants, makes up for the lack of views of the lake. To uphold the native bird life and trees, the course is totally encircled with a predator exclusion fence

The Bay of Islands, was the beginning place of New Zealand's recent history, and is almost at the top of the North Island. Looking across the waters of the Bay of Island and the township of Russell, is the back drop to the picturesque Waitangi Golf Course.

The front nine is played on undulating, native bush surrounded fairways and greens. The back nine has striking views. Sharing your game of golf with native birds like the Tui, Fantails, Australasian Harrier Hawks or a family of Canadian Quails, is not uncommon.

Not only do most clubs in New Zealand, offer golf club and trolley or cart hire and bar & restaurant facilities for refreshments after the game but also a friendly welcome.

If this has enticed you to travel to our lovely country with a group of friends or other players, you will find a number of Coach Charter companies eager to transport you from course to course and help plan your itinerary.
